Chapter 25

Agent Brown was not pleased, not pleased at all. He was pacing back and forth. What did it all mean? Here were the facts. Three guys in disguise entered the Capitol, but they were not really disguises, they looked more like Michael Jackson' frozen doorman, or ambassadors from another planet. They had passed through metal detectors and entered a committee chamber during a senate hearing. They made a coded cellular phone call to a pay phone in San Francisco. A pay phone that had been tampered with by someone wearing surgical gloves with talcum powder on them. Their call was picked up. Agents dispatched. Another call to the same phone. And then they did nothing. They watched the meeting and then left. They were picked up by another blue guy who also made a coded call and then they followed Harold MacAnish to Dulles and got on the same plane. Nothing illegal. Nothing you could arrest them for. If they had done this to the president, they would be in custody explaining what they were up to, but you could do this to a nobody and get away with it. The video tapes were worthless. The blue makeup washed out the pictures, in fact, a lot of the pictures were blank because they used the same color blue as the mat subtraction electronics, so they weren't even there on the tape. No fingerprints - they had on blue surgical gloves. It was as if four guys trained by Groucho Marx had planned something and then aborted. Yeah. Say the magic word and win twenty dollars.

Brown reached for his desk phone. He dialed and a cellular phone in the pocket of an innocuous man at Dulles picked up. "Follow them to San Francisco if they get on the plane with MacAnish." All he heard back was "ROGER".

The innocuous man bought a ticket for San Francisco. He didn't pass through any of the security checkpoints, he certainly would not have made it. He just showed his badge and followed the four guys in blue. They walked into a restroom to wash up. He followed and observed. They all got on the plane when boarding was called. Only Harold was oblivious to the entourage.
